Fertility

Fertility support is for folks who are intentionally working towards a future pregnancy or who have been trying to conceive. Abundant fertility looks different for everyone and through our consultations you may consider beginning daily wellness rituals, nutritional, herbal & supplement support, emotional wellness options, fertility awareness methods, lab testing and ultrasounds for you and your partner.

Minimizing exposure to harmful chemicals, including household chemicals, plastic water bottles, plastics, cooking techniques, soaps, GMO and non-organic foods, food additives and preservatives, conventional cosmetics, beauty products and environmental toxins is a huge undertaking and well worth the benefits toward health and fertility.

Environmental racism places a role in the fertility of communities and a part of your fertility path may include working with local organizations to change their health & fertility of the community including food deserts, fresh food accessibility, location of environmental wastes, and potentially relocation.

IUI
A tender process of nourishing yourself and creating family

IUI is a simple fertility treatment that doesn’t require fertility drugs and can be done in the warmth of your own home.

The process of IUI begins with fertility awareness. Understanding your ovulation cycle is essential when you’re trying to get pregnant. Unless you have a known fertility issue, practicing fertility awareness can dramatically increase your chance of conceiving.

Intrauterine insemination is a process that is appropriate for folks that have challenges with cervical mucus, sperm motility, and those without sperm in their relationship.

Setting the groundwork of fertility support is paramount in IUI success. Connecting with yourself deeply and creating roots for daily wellness rituals is a beautiful way to commit to long term health. A commitment to whole foods, supplementation, hydration, intentional rest, movement, and fertility awareness are vital to abundant fertility and successful IUI.

I recommend that you consistently track your cycle with a combination of calendar tracking, basal body temperature, cervical mucus, and ovulation prediction testing for a minimum of 3 cycles prior to obtaining sperm and performing an IUI, for accurate conception timing.

Some families decide to use fresh sperm, while others decide to use frozen banked sperm. Either one of these options can be used for IUI, though with some additional protocols for fresh sperm.

 Hormone Replacement Therapy

Taking Testosterone for gender affirming hormone replacement therapy, even for 10 or more years may not render you infertile. A recent study reported that ‘eighty percent resumed menses within 6 months of stopping testosterone. Seven percent used fertility medications. Obstetrical outcomes were similar in the testosterone and non-testosterone users.’ It is important to know that testosterone is a teratogen and should be discontinued prior to conception and throughout gestation. Some people experience dysphoria after stopping testosterone and a therapy or counseling plan is recommended to be in place prior to discontinuing HRT.

Some people may find that after charting, their cycles are quite irregular and may need to follow up with a reproductive endocrinologist for hormone replacement therapy to establish and maintain cycles prior to seeking an IUI.

 Process

I believe that IUI support is much more effective in the setting of your own home, where you and your partner (if you have one) can set the tone for a cozy night of romance, with candles lit, maybe listen to your favorite songs and dance, connect, share a delicious meal, and set your altar. This sets your body up hormonally, to make a baby. I like to place a heating pad under you, to keep you warm throughout the process. The procedure is similar to a family centered, gentle pap, at your own pace. Concentrated sperm is directly placed into your uterus through a very small catheter and then you and your family will rest in bed for around 30 minutes.

As soon as 2 weeks following IUI you may start testing for Hcg (Human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone caused by a developing embryo.
